Manchester City 2-1 Bournemouth: David Silva scores one and assists another to leave Cherries in trouble

David Silva has scored two goals from direct free-kicks in his last three Premier League games

David Silva scored one and assisted another in his penultimate Premier League home game for Manchester City to leave Bournemouth in serious danger of relegation to the Championship.

Spaniard Silva, 34, who will leave Manchester City after 10 years at the end of the season, curled a sublime sixth-minute free-kick into the top corner to put the hosts ahead at Etihad Stadium.

Bournemouth recovered well and had chances to level as Ederson produced a great save from Junior Stanislas' free-kick and Nicolas Otamendi put in a crucial block to deny Dominic Solanke at close range.

Silva then turned provider for Gabriel Jesus as the Brazil forward found the bottom corner to double City's advantage before half-time.

Eddie Howe's Bournemouth battled hard in the second half and, having avoided further damage when the video assistant referee overturned a penalty awarded for a tackle by Steve Cook on Jesus, David Brooks converted from Callum Wilson's pass to hand the Cherries a late lifeline.

Unable to find an injury-time equaliser, defeat leaves Bournemouth three points adrift of safety with just two games remaining.

Already guaranteed to finish in second place, City move 18 points behind champions Liverpool, who face Arsenal later on Wednesday.
