BOSTON — Sam Adams is closing the roof deck of its Boston taproom because of an influx of visitors from states seeing a spike in coronavirus cases.

"Due to the influx of out-of-state visitors from COVID-19 hotspots to our taproom, we are closing our rooftop patio out of an abundance of caution for our guests and coworkers,” the brewery posted on Facebook.

People arriving in Massachusetts from outside New England, New York or New Jersey are being asked to quarantine for two weeks — but that is not being enforced.

Mayor Marty Walsh said Tuesday that he does not want to see Boston fall prey to what he called the "devastating" outbreak in other states.

This week, several state lawmakers proposed a bill that would impose fines on anyone who did not quarantine after arriving in Massachusetts from a hot spot region. That's something already in place in New York.
