NEW DELHI: Honda Cars India's introduction of fifth-generation City completes the season of C-segment sedan upgrades under BS6 norms.
The 5th generation City is priced Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards. In the past couple of weeks, we reviewed the 5th generation City and facelifted Verna. Both the sedans have their own share of goods.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz met BS6 compliance in 2019 and remains one of the most popular buys in the segment. The segment is also dotted by the likes of Skoda Rapid, VW Vento and Toyota Yaris.

Here's a price-versus-performance of City, Verna and Ciaz:
The fifth-gen City gets an all-new petrol engine. It's a 1.5-litre, dual-cam, the naturally aspirated motor generates out 123 PS. The transmission duties are handled by 6-speed manual or 7-speed CVT automatic transmission.
The 1.5-litre, i-DTEC diesel engine comes mated to 6-speed manual gearbox only. The engine is power rated at 100 PS power with 200 Nm of peak torque. Honda Cars India has kept an automatic option out of the equation with the diesel.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine is offered with the choice of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, while the 1.5-litre diesel gets a 6-speed MT or AT. Hyundai offers the turbo-petrol engine only with a 7-speed DCT.

Honda City is available in three variants- V, VX and ZX and the cost starts at Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
Petrol automatic starts at Rs 12.20 lakh (ex-showroom) while the diesel manual at Rs 12.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The top-end ZX diesel variant comes at Rs 14.65 lakh (ex-showroom).
Hyundai Verna starts at Rs 9.3 lakh and spans to Rs 15.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai offers the sedan in four variants: S, S+, SX, and SX(O).
The petrol IVT starts at Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom), diesel manual at Rs 10.65 lakh (ex-showroom) and diesel automatic at Rs 13.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Top-end diesel automatic comes at Rs 15.10 lakh (ex-showroom) and the single turbo variant is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Sigma variant, which is the base model of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, is priced at R 8.32 lakh (ex-showroom) while the automatic (Delta) at Rs 9.97 lakh (ex-showroom). Top-of-the-line Alpha AT comes at Rs 11.09 lakh (ex-showroom).
