The Maniktala club, where the clash took place allegedly over not following distancing normsKOLKATA: Four persons were injured after a clash broke out between locals and seven youths, who broke open the lock of a local club to host a birthday party, allegedly without following social-distancing norms. The incident took place at Kabiraj Bagan in Maniktala.
Cops at the Maniktala police station registered two FIRs from two sides on Monday and are looking for the accused.
The incident took place two days after a clash was reported between two armed groups on Dum Dum Road over allegations of not following social distancing despite a local showing early symptoms of Covid.
“We had told all clubs to remain shut for a few days. We presently have two containment zones here — CIT Scheme VII and 156C Maniktala Main Road — and we had advised people to stay away from socializing within confined zones like a club. But on that day, seven young men got together at a local club (Super Star Club) for birthday celebrations. When the party started around 9.30pm, some locals objected. They said that the club was being used for unlawful gathering. This infuriated who were celebrating and a clash resulted. We have the names of 11 accused, three of whom are on the injured list. We will arrest them soon. All are residents of Harish Neogi Road,” said an investigating officer.
All the injured were treated and discharged from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Investigation into the case is on, said an officer at Lalbazar, adding that they have used sections pertaining to hurt and wrongful restraint in both the FIRs.
Though cops and KMC officials said violence can never be a solution, they were, however, satisfied with the growing level of awareness among the lower middle class and slum dwellers.
