BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted a picture of the signboard of Dehradun station on Monday. In it, Dehradun is written Dehradunam in Sanskrit. Dehradun is written in Hindi and English except for Urdu on the signboard. However, his claim has been rejected by the railway authorities.
Northern Railway officials in Delhi said that the name of the Dehradun station on the signboard is not written in Sanskrit. Names in Hindi, English, and Urdu are appearing on the board as before. Railway Ministry officials claimed that it was an illusion created on social media.
The zonal railway official said, "Yard remodeling work was going on in Dehradun. By mistake, the workers got the signboard name written in Sanskrit. When the station resumed after the completion of work, it was rectified and the name was rewritten in Urdu, Hindi, and English as before. '
The issue came to light on Monday morning when BJP national vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe retweeted two photos posted by a Twitter handle named 'Eagle Eye' for the first time. One photograph allegedly showed an old Dehradun station signboard with the name written in Hindi, English, and Urdu. In the second picture, on the signboard, the name was seen written in Sanskrit instead of Urdu.
Sahasrabuddhe tweeted, "Thank you for sharing this important initiative of Indian Railways with us." After this, Patra tweeted the picture and wrote, 'Sanskrit.' More comments were received. Explain that Sanskrit is the official second language of Uttarakhand.
Sources say that Northern Railway had tried to replace the signboard of Dehradun station with Urdu in Sanskrit. In this connection, a Uttarakhand BJP MLA in 2019 demanded the Railway Ministry write the names of railway stations in Hindi and English along with Sanskrit. After which Northern Railway had officially written a letter to the Dehradun district officer last year, asking the state government to take permission. On which the railway did not get any reply.
