CHANDIGARH: A group of 10 people allegedly thrashed a security guard to death at
Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, after he stopped them from entering the emergency according to rules on Sunday night.
The victim is
Shyam Sundar, a resident of Raipur Khurd village in Chandigarh.
Surender Kumar, a guard at GMCH, said the accused had come with an accident case from Ram Darbar at 10pm. The patient was shifted to the emergency ward, where Shyam Sundar was on duty at the gate. He refused entry to the group following the guidelines from the authorities owing to the
coronavirus pandemic, leading to the accused abusing him. A little while later, the accused started thrashing him. They stopped only when other guards intervened. Shyam Sundar was taken to emergency ward and put on a ventilator. He later succumbed to his injuries .
Police on Monday arrested two youths, Naveen Kumar, 23, a driver, and Rahul, 26, a sweeper. Both are residents of Ram Darbar. Cops claimed CCTV camera footage showed the two hitting the guard.
