Legendary writer from the hills, Ruskin Bond is all set to mark 70 years of his literary career. To celebrate his long and successful writing journey, his new book titled 'A Song of India' will be released on July 20.
In 'A Song of India', Bond will tell his story before he became a successful writer. Set in 1951 Dehradun, the illustrated book follows Bond as he leaves for England to "chase his calling". It was in England where Bond worked on his first book 'The Room on the Roof' and realised his true calling of becoming a writer. He returned to India in 1957 after earning 50 pounds for his debut book!
Talking about the book, Bond said, "'A Song of India' marks 70 years of my long writing career which began when I was sixteen. In these seven decades, I have written hundreds of stories for children and just as many for adults too, and I am still continuing to do so. I am very fortunate to have lived in a beautiful part of the country, in the mountains. I am blessed to have received inspiration from the natural world around me, from children and animals, and all of this is reflected in my works."
'A Song of India' is the fourth book in his memoir series following 'Looking for the Rainbow', 'Till the Clouds Roll By' and 'Coming Round the Mountain'.
