SURAT: Varachha (A) zone, the diamond hub of the city, crossed 1,000 mark in
Covid-19 cases on Tuesday as it recorded 29 fresh cases. According to
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials,
Surat city reported 221 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the total numbers of cases in the city to 7,540.
As cases surged in last few weeks, three out of eight civic zones, which include Varachha (A), Limbayat and Katargam, reported over 1,000 Covid-19 cases.
Katargam zone has reported highest cases with 54 followed by 33 in Varachha (B), 29 in Varachha (A), 27 in Athwa, 25 in Rander and 20 cases in Cental zone on Tuesday in the city.
Three
Covid-19 patients succumbed on Tuesday taking the death toll to 310 in the city. Meanwhile, 173 patients were discharged from various hospitals in the city after they they were fully recovered.
As Covid-19 cases surged in the city, Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar arrived in the city and held meeting with senior officers to review the
Covid-19 situation in Surat city and
Surat district.
"As cases surge in Surat city as well as in rural area, extensive health monitoring will be carried out and health services will be provided at the door step through Dhanvantari Raths through micro planning. 1,000 Covid-19 beds will soon be added at the New Civil hospital in the city to cater to more patients,'' Pankaj Kumar said.
