UoH receives record no of applications during the pandemic

HYDERABAD: Notwithstanding the uncertainty over commencement of the new academic year in these pandemic times, the University of Hyderabad received a record number of online applications for the academic year 2020-21. This year, the university received 62,853 applications as against 56,000 received last year.

According to a press release issued by UoH, highest number of applications for various courses have been received from Telangana (28,612) followed by Kerala (7,019), Delhi (5,082), Andhra Pradesh (4,250), West Bengal (3,878) and Orissa (3349).

Of the total number of applications, about 60 per cent are from students belonging to SC, ST, OBC communities, reflecting the perception of the university not only as a centre of excellence, but also as an inclusive space for all. While an almost equal number of men and women are among the applicants, the University has received 11 applications from candidates who have identified themselves as transgender.


“Not only have the number of applications within India increased, the number of foreign students applying has also gone up more than 20 per cent this year. The Institution of Eminence tag has certainly helped the UoH in further brightening it’s already positive image among the student community who want to be part of the institution,” said Prof Appa Rao Podile, vice-chancellor, UoH.

The five years integrated masters course in science was the most sought after with as many as 6,189 candidates applying for it followed by master of science chemistry 3,847, Physics 3,161, five years integrated masters course in social science 2,953, masters in English 2,536 and master of computer applications 2,946.


“The entrance exams will be notified once the situation improves and is conducive for holding the same. A total of 2,456 seats are being offered for admissions to 132 courses. This includes 16 integrated courses, 41 post-graduate courses, 15 MPhil, 10 Mech and 46 PhD programmes,” read the press release.
