Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Soon, cured patients’ number to reach a milestone

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s Covid-19 tally reached 1,47,324 on Tuesday with 4,526 fresh cases. The toll rose to 2,099 with 67 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
There were 47,912 active cases, including 15,814 in Chennai. As many as 4,743 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours.
The number of people recovered is inching closer to one lakh with 97,310 on Tuesday.
The state’s hotspot, Chennai, recorded 1,078 new cases and the adjoining districts -- Tiruvallur (360), Kancheepuram (117) and Chengalpet (264) -- together recorded 741 cases.
Epidemiologists say the growth of the contagion in the districts is increasing rapidly.
All districts recorded fresh cases on Tuesday. Madurai recorded 450 cases, Virudunagar reported 328 cases, Dindugal had 153 cases and Sivaganga registered 113 cases. Tuticorin and Tenkasi registered 112 and 102 cases, respectively.
Coimbatore reported 188 cases, Vellore recorded 194 cases and Trichy registered 117 cases.
At least 59 people who had come from other countries and states tested positive since Monday.
While Chennai reported 18 deaths, 18 other districts reported deaths in single digits. Two patients who died did not have any comorbidities.
