Fifth round of sero survey in Gurgaon today, set to cover 92

Gurgaon: The fifth round of district survey based on serological Covid tests will be conducted on Tuesday and samples of 92 people will be collected for identifying the presence of IgG antibodies.
Health officials said that 20 categories of people, including shop owners, tuberculosis and HIV patients, anganwadi workers, MCG employees, and health workers, have been identified to analyse the extent of exposure in these groups.
The survey was started in mid-June after a spike in cases across districts from the beginning of the month and has covered 361 people so far, including cops, vegetable vendors, and people living in the slum areas.
“We have selected the groups that are likely to contract the infection because they go out for work. In the previous surveys, antibodies were found in 49 people,” said Gurgaon chief medical officer Dr Virender Yadav.
The district has received 460 Elisa test kits which are used in this survey.
“The antibody IgG is detected 14 days after the infection and remains in the body for some time. We need to cover more people in the survey for accurate findings. We have a population of around 30 lakh, so, we should cover more people for the sero survey. We are going to further study different groups,” said the official.
The health department officials said that they have not drawn any analysis yet because not many people have been surveyed yet.
“We are going to ask for 20 more kits for the sero survey so that the number of people we cover increases and we are able to draw a conclusion on the prevalence of the novel coronavirus in Gurgaon,” said another health department official.
