New Zealand head coach Gary Stead admits thinking about last year's World Cup final makes him feel "numb" but he says he is proud of how his team performed throughout the tournament.

The Kiwis lost out against hosts England in an extra-ordinary game at Lord's that finished tied even after a Super Over but was decided on boundary count.

In the Super Over, England scored 15 then Jofra Archer kept New Zealand to the same score when Martin Guptill was run out on the final delivery with hosts winning their first ever 50-over global trophy.

In quotes published on ESPNCricinfo, speaking on the one-year annivesary of the final, Stead said: "I do think about it a bit, I think everyone has really different emotions around it.

"The thing that stands out for me is that it's all a bit numb, really, in some ways but enormously proud of the way we played the whole tournament."

Most fans and pundits around the world feel it was a cruel way for the Black Caps to lose out on the trophy but Stead insists there is no bitterness.

Days after the tournament it emerged that there was also an umpiring error that handed England a significant advantage in the final over of the game.

Stead continued: "I think there's a wee bit of hurt from time to time and I guess any Kiwi fan is probably very much in that same boat.

"There's no bitterness at all, we understood the rules going into the match.

"It's a hard one because there's some great emotions that came from that tournament as well, but unfortunately it was just that final hurdle we didn't cross.

"It's something I'm sure will drive the players to keep wanting to get better every day."
