BOSTON --- A handful of names have emerged regarding who might fill some of the 10 remaining open spots in the Red Sox Summer Camp player pool.

A source told The Journal infielder Jeter Downs and pitchers Jay Groome and Tanner Houck would be among those reporting to McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket for workouts. The Boston Globe reported outfielder Jarren Duran and pitcher Bryan Mata would also be called to join Boston’s reserves at its alternate site.

All five players are rated among the organization’s top 10 minor leaguers per SoxProspects.com. Downs was one of three players acquired from the Dodgers in an offseason trade that sent Mookie Betts and David Price to Los Angeles. Groome, Houck and Duran were all Red Sox draft selections while Mata was an international signing from Venezuela in January 2016.

"We know what we’re going to do," Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said. "We’re going to have conversations with some of the guys in the next couple of days."

Roenicke and Boston chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom were among those expected to meet following Monday’s workout. Representatives from the Red Sox and PawSox were expected to have discussions Tuesday regarding the facility setup and some possible players to expect.

Boston started workouts with 48 players and have made a pair of additions in right-hander Caleb Simpson and left-hander Mike Kickham. The Red Sox are expected to make some roster cuts by the end of the weekend – only 30 players will be in uniform for the July 24 opener against the Orioles. Boston has delayed making any moves in order to field full teams for its intrasquad games.

"You guys will get a list on Friday and know," Roenicke said. "From our camp there isn’t much movement – very little. But all the other guys are going to come in."
