PATNA: Bihar additional chief secretary (home) Amir Subhani has tested positive for Covid-19. He is the first among the top ranking bureaucrats in state government to be tested positive for the virus.
When asked, Subhani told TOI via message that he was found Covid-19 positive on Monday.
The bureaucrat said that he was presently under isolation at home and was taking all necessary precautions. “Having all necessary arrangements and gadgets. Feeling fine. No worries,” the top bureaucrat wrote.
Subhani is a 1987 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer. Senior to him are only four IAS officers in state who are chief secretary Deepak Kumar, development commissioner Arun Kumar Singh, board of revenue chairman cum member Tripurari Sharan and chief inquiry commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Sinha. Earlier, few district magistrates had been tested Covid-19 positive in state.
Meanwhile, an IG and a DIG rank officer in state police who have their offices inside the Sardar Patel Bhawan have also been tested Covid-19. The building houses state police headquarters as well as emergency operation centre (EOC) of state disaster management department.
ADG (headquarters) Jitendra Kumar told TOI over phone that an IPS officer posted as DIG is the latest one to be tested Covid positive.
“He is posted in Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and his report came on Monday,” he said.
ADG Kumar said that another IG officer posted with the State Crime Record Bureau was tested Covid-19 positive last week and he is on the verge of recovery.
“The IG as well as DIG is under home isolation. Both have offices in Sadar Patel Bhawan. All precautionary measures are being taken. The DIG had attended office last week,” ADG said, adding that the building is being sanitized periodically since the pandemic broke out.
