THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The
daily Covid-19 tally in the state crossed 400 for the fourth consecutive day on Monday, with 449 more testing positive for the virus.
The number of contact cases is 241, including 77 Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel in Nooranad, 10 Defence Service Corps personnel and four fire force personnel in Kannur, one BSF jawan and three KSE workers in Thrissur and five health workers.
Two more deaths -- Aisha (64) of Kannur and Thyagarajan (74) of Kollam who died on Sunday -- were announced on Monday, taking the number of Covid deaths in the state to 34, including the Mahe native who died at Pariyaram medical college hospital in April.

Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters that the measures adopted by the state against the
pandemic were effective.

"The number of deaths per million in Kerala is 0.9 as against the
national figure of 17. Kerala has a test positivity rate (positive cases per 100 tests) of 2.27, which is comparable to world figures. The average test positivity rate in India is 7.46; it’s much higher in the neighbouring states," he added.
Vijayan said tests would be intensified further to keep the test per million vs case per million indicator above 50 as advised by experts. The test per million vs case per million figure of Kerala is 44 against the national average of 13.
Among the new patients, 140 came from abroad and 64 from other states. Alappuzha topped the tally with 119 cases, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (63), Pathanamthitta and Malappuram (47 each), Kannur (44), Kollam (33), Palakkad (19), Kozhikode (16), Ernakulam (15), Wayanad (14), Kottayam (10), Thrissur and Kasaragod (9 each) and Idukki (4).
The samples of 162 patients tested negative on Monday. These include 28 in Malappuram, 25 in Palakkad, 20 in Kannur, 16 in Wayanad, 14 in Thrissur, 12 each in Kottayam and Ernakulam, eight in Kozhikode, seven in Alappuzha, five in Kasaragod, three in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Pathanamthitta.
As many as 4,028 cases are under treatment now while 4,529 persons have recovered from the infection. There are 1,80,594 persons under home/ institutional quarantine.
