Representative ImageTHANE: An apprentice from Central Railway’s signalling and telecommunication department of died after being hit by a local train between Thane and Mulund on Monday. A native of Kozhikode in Kerala, J S Satya Nandan (26), was on his first day of training in Thane.
The railway police said the mishap took place around 10am near Kopri bridge when he was on his way to the office located near the station. It was unclear why he was walking along the tracks, but the police said he was probably trying to take a short cut.
A senior railway official said Nandan was initially in Kalyan after which he was assigned to the Thane office. He lived with friends in Kalyan.
“He was new to the area and probably not aware of traffic movement at the spot and got accidentally hit,” said a railway police official.
