Tesla Cuts Model Y Price By $3,000, Performance Model Updated

Just a few months after the Tesla Model Y came to market, the electric automaker has cut pricing by $3,000 in the United States.

There are currently two variants of the Model Y on offer – the Long Range and Performance. Thanks to the price cut, the Model Y Long Range is now available from $49,990, down from $52,990.

This will be welcome news for anyone who has patiently waited to order a Model Y rather than joining the thousands to have placed pre-orders or those who placed an order through the first half of this year.

Electrek notes that some adjustments have also been made for the flagship Tesla Model Y Performance. Previously, the vehicle was available with an optional Performance Package that sees the top speed increased from 145 mph (233 km/h) to 155 mph (250 km/h) as well as unique 21-inch wheels fitted alongside Performance brakes, lowered suspension, and aluminum pedals.

Through the update, this package will come standard on all Model Y Performances. Prices for this version start at $59,990.

Thanks to the $3,000 price cut for the Model Y Long Range, it is now only $3,000 more expensive than the equivalent variant of the Model 3, not a bad trade-off considering the added size and practicality of the Model Y.

Tesla is no stranger to frequently tweaking the prices of its models. In late May, prices of the Model S and Model X Long Range Plus both fell by $5,000 from $79,990 down to $74,990 respectively. Similarly, Model S and Model X Performance variants enjoyed a $5,000 price cut. All Tesla Model 3 derivatives also saw a $2,000 cut.
