Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida gets boost, adds second RT-PCR machine

GREATER NOIDA: Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida on Sunday got its second enhanced capacity Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) machine that can conduct around 300 Covid tests in a day.
At present, the hospital is conducting RT-PCR tests with a single machine that has a capacity of conducting around 200 tests per day.
Priced at Rs 65 lakh, the new, enhanced capacity RT-PCR machine will help speed up testing measures to deal with the pressure of increased number of patients.
Dr Ajit Kumar, joint registrar of the hospital, said, "This is an enhanced capacity machine and can conduct at least 300 tests in three shifts of eight hours each."
He added that they are waiting for additional support equipment such as an RNA extractor, which automatically extracts viral RNA from nasal swabs and other body fluids, and helps increase testing capacity. "We have already ordered the additional equipment and it is expected in a few days," the Dr added.
