PUNE: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecasted moderate rainfall across Pune city and district from Tuesday till Friday.
On Monday, the district was likely to receive light rainfall and the chances of getting isolated heavy rainfall in the ghat areas were high, it said.
“Due to the offshore trough running between south Goa and south Kerala, there would be moisture-laden westerly winds that would be brought over land, causing widespread rainfall over the state. The moisture-level, would increase in the atmosphere because of this weather condition, which would bring rain over the city and district,” Anupam Kashyapi, the head of weather forecast division at the IMD Pune, said.
The Vidarbha and Marathwada regions would also get widespread rainfall in the coming days, he said.
On Sunday, some areas of the district received light short spell of rains. The weather condition was mostly sunny and towards evening it was overcast. Shivajinagar observatory recorded trace rainfall, while Lohegaon recorded 3.4mm rainfall. Shivajinagar and Lohegaon observatories recorded 30.5°C and 30.6°C, which were above normal by 1.8 and 1.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Officials from the district agriculture department said season’s sowing and plantation of rice was in last phase in the district. “The district recorded above normal rainfall this season because of which farmers could finish sowing in time. Growth of other seasonal crops was also good,” a senior official from the agriculture department said.
