TRICHY: State board students who have been promoted to class XII have been asked to bring their government laptops to schools to download audio-visual content of the curriculum prepared by State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

Teachers say this will help students to prepare for board exam scheduled for next year while being at home as regular classes are unlikely to start any time soon. While the students have been asked to come between July 14 and 16, they will get the content downloaded in their laptops through the high-tech labs at the schools.

SCERT Tamil Nadu joint director had a video-conference with school education staff and government teachers on Saturday in this regard. SCERT Tamil Nadu website has created audiovisual content of the textbook lessons of class XII. While the videos are available on YouTube, links are available on the website. “While these students have been covered under the free laptop scheme of the state government, it may not be possible for students to get the content downloaded from the internet as it will require huge data which comes with a cost. This move will help students get access to the content free of cost,” said a government school teacher. With the AV content, students can start self-study and contact their teachers for any doubts, said the teachers.

Audio-visual content of 12 main subjects will be given to the students whereas students from other classes will rely on Kalvi Tholaikatchi and other channels for classes. Trichy district chief education officer S Santhi told TOI that there are roughly 15,000 students across the district in class XII. The measure will help students keep track of their academic activity until schools reopen. Students will also be given textbooks along with the AV content, she said.
