PATNA: A day after BJP leader and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo) drew a parallel between a weak student and main opposition RJD saying the latter wanted an excuse to delay exams so that to avoid failure, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav hit back and dared BJP to contest election on its own.
“Himmat hai aur itna hin majboot ho to akele lad kar dekh lo (If you have courage and are also feel very strong, then fight election on its own),” Tejashwi tweeted. He also called the BJP ‘pichhlaggu’ of CM Nitish Kumar for the last 24 years due to fear of the RJD.
Calling the BJP weak and non-committal, which compromised with its dignity and honour and joined hands with Nitish to usurp power in 2017, the leader of opposition in the state assembly said the party (BJP) decided to become a part of the government, which has neither any ‘reason nor any vision’. On Saturday, SuMo had compared the opposition party to a weak student who wanted exams to be delayed so that he didn’t fail. He also said RJD was looking for an excuse to defer elections in view of its possible defeat. SuMo was reacting to persistent demand of the RJD for deferring elections due to Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s for the Election Commission (EC) to decide if elections are possible in Bihar amid Covid-19 pandemic. The NDA will abide by any EC decision. At present, there is no need for any political party to make any statement on the EC,” SuMo had said, adding the party like RJD had no moral right to make any comment on the EC. SuMo had further said elections were three months away and how could one visualize the situation at this stage? “Moreover, it’s the job of the EC to make an assessment of the situation and take a final decision on the issue,” he said.
Apart from RJD, NDA ally LJP had also voiced its concern over conducting elections in the state amid Covid-19 outbreak. LJP chief and Jamui MP Chirag Paswan had described the situation in the state as not conducive for the polls.
Even Congress MLC Prem Chandra Mishra had demanded from the EC to hold an all-party meeting to reach a consensus over the contentious issue.
However, both JD(U) and BJP are in favour of the election on schedule in October-November.
