Cops and gram panchayats track workers’ movement in Pune

PUNE: The Haveli police station and various gram panchayats located around Khadakwasla are preparing a list of professionals who visit Pune city everyday for work to keep a check on the rise of coronavirus cases in the area falling under their jurisdiction.
The health officials and police informed TOI that the number of cases in last one week has surged in the area, with as many as 102 positive cases recorded in the areas of Nanded, Kolhewadi, Kirkatwadi, Khadakwasla, Gorhe and Khanapur. Two have died due to the infection, they said.
Police inspector Ashok Shelke of Haveli police station told TOI, “We are preparing a list of the professionals and workers who visit different parts of the Pune city for work. The list is likely to swell beyond 6,000 entries.”
The district health officials and police will approach the individuals mentioned in the list to inform them about the importance of wearing masks, and social distancing, among others. “The health officers will also inform them about testing and hospitalization in the event of anyone developing any symptoms of Covid-19,” Shelke said.
Shelke said that the number of positive cases increased in the area over the last week. “Many of whom tested positive in these villages had visited their offices or hospitals in Pune city,” he said “These villages have been declared as containment areas last week after the number of cases surged,” he added.
