CBSE Class XII results: Tamil Nadu comes second in pass percentage

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu has secured second place with 97.3% pass percentage in CBSE Class XII exam results that were released on Monday.
Kerala secured first place among the states with 97.7% students clearing the exam and Karnataka got third place with 97% pass percentage.
Chennai student A Balakrishnan secured 498 out of 500 in the board exams. The Maharishi Vidyamandir Senior Secondary School (Chetpet) student secured centum in physics, chemistry, maths and computer science. He got 98 marks in English.
"I expected a score above 490. I was surprised to get 498 out of 500," said Balakrishnan. He is preparing for JEE.
"I want to pursue computer science engineering in IIT-Madras. I am preparing for the joint entrance exam," he further said.
R Rahul Reddy of Maharishi Vidya Mandir scored 496 out of 500 marks.
S Namasivayam, senior principal of Maharishi Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, said the school has recorded 100% pass percentage.
"Out of 471 students who appeared for the exam, 316 have scored 450 and above marks," he said.
L Padmavathy, principal of Modern Senior Secondary School (Nanganallur), said the students have performed better than last year. "In economics (3) and entrepreneurship (1) we got full scores. Nearly seven students secured 99 marks in English," she said.
Some principals felt that the number of centum has been reduced compared to previous year. "The number of centum has come down compared to previous year. But, overall, students have performed well," said R Srinivasa Raghavan, principal of Bala Vidyamandir Senior Secondary School.
The Chennai region, which includes Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradhesh, Telangana Andaman & Nicobar islands and Puducherry, has got 96.17% pass percentage and was third among the regions.

As per data released by the CBSE, 37,207 of the 38,235 students, who appeared for the Class XII board exam from Tamil Nadu, cleared it. The pass percentage of boys is 96.8% while it is 97.9% for girls.
