BHOPAL: Nearly a week ahead of the budget presentation in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday allocated portfolios to the newly-inducted ministers in his cabinet. Chouhan kept plum departments with himself and some of BJP's old guards.
Meanwhile, ministers close to BJP Rajya Sabha member Jyotiraditya Scindia also managed to get plum departments such as health, energy, women and child development and panchayat as well as rural development departments.

Earlier, Chouhan had forwarded the names of the ministers and their respective portfolios with the consent of Scindia and his supporters.
Jagdish Devda will be the finance minister of Madhya Pradesh while chief minister Chouhan's close aide Bhupendra Singh has been assigned the charge of urban development minister. The home department will remain with senior minister Narottam Mishra who has given health to Prabhuram Chaudahry and will hold the responsibility of legislative affairs, jail and law departments too.
There was an intense tussle over prized portfolios between senior BJP leaders and Scindia's loyalists had to settle for their old departments and a few portfolios focusing on public welfare and development.
Senior cabinet minister and close confidante of Scindia, Tulsiram Silawat, will continue to work as water resources department with additional responsibility of fisheries welfare and fisheries development while Govind Singh Rajput will be the transport and revenue minister. He was given the responsibility of food and civil supplies and cooperatives departments previously. Cabinet minister Imarti Devi will continue to be the minister of women and child development department.
