Yet another spike of 130 COVID cases in Goa

Panaji: The state on Monday witnessed a spike of 130 fresh cases of the COVID-19 pandemic, taking the total tally of active cases above 1000-mark. Around 53 patients were declared cured in the last 24 hours by the directorate of health services.

Till date, the state has witnessed 2583 confirmed cases; of which 1,026 are currently active. A total of 1,540 people have recovered from the disease.

Seventeen COVID deaths have been reported in the state, so far,   including three fatalities on Monday. 

State epidemiologist Dr Utkarsh Betodkar told a press conference that as many as 54 new cases are from the Verna-based Tulip Diagnostic Private Limited Company, 12 cases have been reported at Cuncolim, 10 cases at Chimbel, including eight from Indiranagar, while 22 cases are linked to Mangor Hill, the containment zone in Vasco.

He said the fresh cases detected also include five at Shiroda, three cases each from Fatorda, Margao and Talaulim Ponda, while two cases each have been recorded from Verem, Mollem and Ponda-Priol.

The new cases also include one each from Bicholim, Marcel, Sanvordem, Camurlim, Panaji, Navelim, Ponda, Pernem, Taleigao and Balli.

According to the DHS, the 1026 active cases include 125 persons, who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air; 76 residents of Mangor Hill, while 297 cases are linked to the containment zone in Vasco.

The major locations from where cases are surfacing include Zuarinagar (146), Kharewada (54), New Vaddem (83), Tulip Diagnostic (80), Baina (112), Chimbel (73), Headland Sada (91), Curtorim (32) and Balli (42) and Morlem (22).

Dr Betodkar said that nine buses of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation have been pressed into service for ferrying asymptomatic COVID positive patients from their homes to COVID care centres located across the state.
