BENGALURU: The search operation for 6-year-old N Mallika, suspected to have drowned in a stormwater drain in Bellandur on Friday, continued on Saturday. However, her body was not traced even after the team covered over three kilometres inside the drain.
A 60-member team began the operation at 8am and called it off at 7pm.
The younger daughter of Nityananda Kuli and Boni from Assam, Mallika slipped from the retaining wall of the drain while playing with other children.
Her parents work as housekeeping staff in an apartment. “We don’t think the body has washed away or travelled far. It must have got stuck in the silt. Had it rained heavily on Friday night or Saturday, the body would have travelled some distance at least,” a rescue official said.
