Two more persons die of coronavirus

Panaji/Vasco/Canacona: Two more persons on Sunday died of coronavirus in the Margao-based designated COVID Hospital, taking the total number of COVID fatalities  in the state to 14.

Goa has seen five COVID deaths in the last 48 hours; of  the 14 deaths, eight have been recorded in Mormugao taluka. 

An 80-year-old woman from Chicalim passed  away on Sunday morning in the COVID Hospital.

The woman was among four  members  of a family admitted to the  hospital. The  three other family members have recovered from the disease.

Last rites for the woman will be conducted on Monday.

A 49-year cancer patient from Palolem in Canacona taluka also succumbed to COVID-19 in  the hospital on Sunday  morning.

The deceased lost his battle for life at around 7.30 am after waging it for two weeks. Sources said the person was a cancer patient and was suffering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The man was shifted to the COVID Hospital on June 28 in a critical state. 

He was  laid to rest in the Palolem cemetery later in the day.

This is the first COVID death reported in Canacona taluka, which has seen 22 COVID positive cases. Of  the 22 cases, five persons have defeated the virus, while  17 persons are still under treatment.

Sources said that a relative of the Canacona COVID victim has also tested positive for the virus. The relative was attending to the cancer  patient  when he was in a Panaji hospital undergoing treatment for cancer.

A pall of gloom engulfed Palolem on Sunday.

On Saturday, the  state had seen three COVID deaths. All the three COVID patients who had died on Saturday were residents of Vasco –  an 80-year-old woman from Rumdawada, a 31-year-old man  from Baina and a 75-year-old man from Khariwada.

The state COVID fatalities also include an 85-year-old man from Morlem in Sattari, a 58-year-old man from Khariwada in Vasco and a 76-year-old woman from Fatorda, who passed away in the last week of June.

The other deaths reported during this month include 66-year-old man from Satissmovado in Taleigao, a 74-year-old woman from Curtorim, a 45-year-old man from Khariwada, a 72-year-old man from Chicalim, Vasco, a 65-year-old man from Desai Nagar in Sankhali and a 50-year-old man from New Vaddem in Vasco.
