KARNAL: Under the Smart City project, water supply to the city will be connected to the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). The board of directors has given the nod for the project, which is expected to make the water supply system more efficient and effectively monitor its working. Tender for the project will be called shortly.
Sources said SCADA is a computer-based control system that gathers and analyses real-time data to track and monitor supply. It will be operated by a team at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) under construction in Sector 12.
The team will identify areas facing problems like leaking water or sewerage pipes, water tanks not filling up or overflowing and the functioning of tubewell motors. Tubewells can be switched on or off at the ICCC room. To strengthen water supply, sensors and metres will be installed at each of the existing 165 and 25 proposed tube wells, three booster stations and 150 key points identified across the city.
