Dalai Lama is welcome to visit Taiwan, says Foreign Ministry
Taiwan would welcome a visit by exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, its foreign ministry has said, adding that any invitation would be handled under "relevant rules" if a request to visit is received, reported Radio Free Asia, a US-funded international broadcasting corporation.
The Dalai Lama is "welcome to come to Taiwan again to propagate the Buddhist teachings," foreign ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou said on Monday, adding that an application by the Dalai Lama to visit would be handled "in accordance with the principle of mutual respect and at a time of convenience for both sides."

Nagaland police set up, operate 1027-bed quarantine centre
Police in Nagaland have set up the north-eastern state's biggest quarantine facility managed by police personnel, a senior official said on Sunday.
The 1027-bed centre at Ganeshpur was set up to augment the state government's efforts to check coronavirus, Nagaland DGP T John Longkumer said.

Sachin Pilot in Delhi, seeks time to meet Congress chief
Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot has arrived in Delhi to meet party high command and has sought time for a meeting with Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, sources said on Sunday.
The sources said that at least a dozen MLAs said to be from Pilot's camp are also staying put in NCR-Delhi region at various places. Pilot had come to Delhi on Saturday.
According to the sources, MLA P.R. Meena, considered to be a member from the Pilot group, had sought to meet Sonia Gandhi to apprise her of the "step-motherly treatment given to them by the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan".

Mumbai Police have beefed up security outside the Nanavati Hospital, where megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan have been admitted after they tested positive for coronavirus, officials said on Sunday.

180 US academic institutions join lawsuit against student visa restrictions
Some 180 academic institutions in the US have joined a lawsuit against President Donald Trump administration's decision to ban foreign students taking only online courses.

China economy rebounds in Q2 after virus hit: AFP poll
China returned to growth in the second quarter after the coronavirus pandemic handed the world's second largest economy its first contraction in decades, according to an AFP poll of analysts.
The survey of analysts from 11 institutions pegged China's growth at 1.3 percent -- a far cry from the 6.1 percent expansion posted last year but in better shape than other countries still grappling with the contagion.
The coronavirus, which first emerged in China's industrial central province of Hubei late last year, has shut businesses worldwide and destroyed hundreds of millions of jobs.

Quarantine facilities to be set up at Kolkata's Eden Gardens
In a bid to combat COVID-19, quarantine facilities for police personnel will be set up at Eden Gardens, said Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya.
In a video message on Saturday, Dalmiya said that the decision has been taken after a meeting between Kolkata Police and CAB officials.

Govt OKs use of skin ailment drug for Covid patients
Drug regulator Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved Itolizumab, for restricted emergency use on Covid-19 patients with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress. Itolizumab is already in use to cure skin ailment psoriasis.
The approval is based on clinical trial data submitted by drug maker Biocon, health ministry said.
Biocon — that has been selling the medicine under brand Alzumab in India for psoriasis since 2013 — submitted phase 2 clinical trial data to the regulator to repurpose the drug for Covid-19 patients. Officials said the results of these trials were deliberated in the subject expert committee of DCGI’s office.

Chinese vaccine developer CanSino Biologics is in talks with Russia, Brazil, Chile, and Saudi Arabia to launch a Phase III trial of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine, its co-founder said on Saturday.
