PANAJI: Two weeks after chief minister Pramod
Sawant said that there was no
community transmission in the state,
health minister Vishwajit
Rane on Saturday said that the state has already witnessed the phenomenon.
“It has been established that community transmission has taken place in the state,” he said. “At this stage, we cannot deny that there is no community transmission.”
Rane said that Vasco’s Mangor Hill, the state’s first containment zone, was a learning experience for the government. The contagion in the area, which has reported over 400 cases, was termed “local transmission” by the government.
On June 27, TOI reported that Sawant said that community transmission had begun in the state. However, on July 1, he retracted his statement, saying there was no community transmission. “I had said it earlier,” he said. “But when I studied the matter, I found all cases are connected.”
