Race-by-race guide and tips for Moruya on Monday

Track likely downgraded Soft 6/7 and rail out 3m from 1000m to 350m into a Cut/Away so generally around or just off the speed

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1435m):

Kembla three-year-old gelding 1. Alan from the Theresa Bateup stable hasn't savaged the line in two runs back, but can break through over more ground third-up in what looks a weak race.
Dangers: Local three-year-old 4. Icksta comes out of that same race as Alan, and jumps sharply in weight, but improves second-up; while watch the betting on debutant Kembla filly 6. Dame Roma (Adelaide x Elle Elle Bee by Oratorio) who has trialled well. Include stablemate filly to Icksta, 7. Hoystryke who is better placed back out in distance fourth-up.

How to play it: Alan to win and box trifecta 1,4,6,7. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 2 2YO HCP (1020m):

The babies' turn in an intriguing challenge over the short trip. Keen on Canberra filly 7. Different Time from the Gratz Vella yard resuming off a sound trial win for only her third start. Looks to have strengthened up, and bred to handle rain-affected ground.
Dangers: Queanbeyan gelding 1. Choccy Gaf was strong through the line winning second-up in the heavy at Wagga, although back in trip and up in weight is query. Stablemate gelding 5. Little Krakatoa hit the line hard resuming here and will need the pace on again up front, but watch for him sailing home late. Keep gelding and first starter 3. Sir Finn (Ferlax x Herculaneum by Elusive City) safe off a nice open trial for strong fresh stable.
How to play it: Different Time to win. Odds and Evens: Odds a special.

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1210m):

Modest and tricky race. Top-weight three-year-old gelding 1. Pahang has his first run for the leading local yard of Natalie Jarvis off a two-month break. Dropped out resuming at Kembla, but took on deeper opposition last prep, and as the likely leader will be tough to get past with the blinkers off.
Dangers: Warwick Farm four-year-old 2. Haunting Spirit is still trying to break through at 20th start and didn't do much resuming at Hawkesbury, but is much better second-up. Draws to be tucked away on the fence around midfield. We'll get a decent lead on Canberra filly 5. Just A Pearl who finished off okay on debut here despite blowing in betting in that same maiden Alan ran second, and gets in light after rider's 2kg claim; while Kembla filly 8. Kelava has trialled well for her first run in six months, and also well in at the weights after a 3kg claim.

How to play it: Pahang to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 4 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1650m):

Plenty of chances here. Former Victorian three-year-old gelding 6. Vallauris did his best work late resuming here under 60kg in his first run for the Matt Dale stable. Drops nicely in weight, and will appreciate more ground given he was a dominant maiden winner at Sale as a hot favourite over 2200m last prep, and then wasn't beaten far in a good BM 70.
Dangers: Goulburn mare 8. Petaluma swept home to win her maiden in heavy ground at Albury two runs back before outclassed in a much tougher Highway. Back to right company, and just needs to slot in for cover from the awkward barrier. Shoalhaven four-year-old 1. Lord Desanimaux has proved costly this prep, despite being competitive in deeper form races. Hard fit and drawn well, he gets another genuine chance. Expect sharp improvement third-up from Canberra gelding 4. Fever Tree after dropping out on a bog track at Wagga.
How to play it: Vallauris to win and box exacta 1,6,8. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 5 CLASS 1 HCP (1210m):

Improving Kembla three-year-old 4. Sir Eagle from the Robert and Luke Price yard can take the next step after landing a solid betting move to win his maiden here first-up. Jumps from the same gate, should park a few lengths off them and can reel them in again.
Dangers: Loved the way Braidwood four-year-old 7. It's A Dream attacked the line for a dominant maiden win at Gundagai and while this is tougher, he draws the fence. Local four-year-old 6. Endymion has been up for a while, but stuck on well after leading here in a similar race and draws to get another cosy on-speed run; while Canberra four-year-old 1. Francisco Pizaro resumes off a long break and two average trials, but does have a sound fresh record.
How to play it: Sir Eagle to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 6 BM 58 HCP (1020m):

Competitive sprint, although three-year-old Canberra gelding 1. Shenandoah looks hard to beat first-up for the Keith Dryden yard from a good draw. Hasn't publicly trialled, but the stable is one of the best at getting them ready.
Dangers: Local three-year-old filly 3. Boom And Zoom also returns without an official trial, but is capable fresh, and has been placed three times from four starts on home track. Another one resuming tough Nowra four-year-old 2. Greyt Weekend hasn't started for nearly nine months, but generally comes to hand quickly and has trialled well. Gets a 3kg claim, and drawn to park right behind the speed. Expect an improved run second-up from a better draw from Canberra mare 5. Jewel Of The Clan although she doesn't want it too wet.
How to play it: Shenandoah to win. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 7 BM 66 HCP (1435m):

The most open race of the day is saved for last. Like home track three-year-old gelding 8. Kattegat from the Natalie Jarvis yard coming back from two strong closing efforts in Highway grade. Last start at Randwick chased home in-form Partners who then led all the way to win again at Rosehill on Saturday.
Dangers: Queanbeyan four-year-old 2. Hard Core is weighted near his best even after the claim, but drops in grade and should roll forward from a wider draw. Sapphire Coast four-year-old 6. Izzy Looking Good is drawn off the track, but watch for him flooding home late. Won at this track three runs back before not beaten far in a stronger Highway. Canberra six-year-old 3. Balonne finished off okay in that same BM 84 race here as Hard Core, and gets out to his best distance, although hasn't carried this weight in a long time. Tough local eight-year-old 1. Charlie Royale can improve second-up off a long break despite a hefty rise in weight after doing little resuming in the Narooma Cup.
How to play it: Kattegat to win and trifecta 2,6,8/1,2,3,6,8/1,2,3,6,8. Odds and Evens: Evens.
