AHMEDABAD: Within 24 hours of the incident Isanpur police rounded up five accused including two minor girls in the murder of 21-year-old youth Umang Darji of eastern Khokhra who was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on Khokhra Guruji Bridge on Friday night at about 11 pm.
Police were surprised when one of the girl, detained according to juvenile law said that as she wanted a mobile and for that Krunal Dalwadi, 30, of Ghodasar, Hardik Agrawal, 22, of Hatkeshwar and Shyam Rathod,24 of Hatkeshwar intercepted the deceased who passing by the Bridge and snatched his mobile and purse. Police said one of the two girls also dealt according to the juvenile laws earlier by Nadiad Police.
Assistant inspector of J division Rajpalsinh Rana said that questioning the person who had called up, Darji's father they came to know that there were three men and two girls involved in the murder.
"Fortunately, the man knew one of the girls, who had come into contact with the police according to the juvenile law earlier also. We tracked her and through her we got the names of the remaining four. We rounded up Dalwadi from his house but the other two accused and the girl were still on the run" added ACP Rana.
Inspector KB Sankhala of Isanpur police station said that their surveillance team managed to get the mobile numbers of Agrawal and Rathod and the description of the bike they were presently running on.
"On getting the location, it came between Vastral and Odhav. Two teams were formed and rushed to the spot. One of the team spotted the bike of the same description going on the roadside near Sangam Hotel with two men and one girl sitting on it. When the other minor girl also identified them as her accomplice in murder, from the running police vehicle they started chasing the bike from the wrong side and the other police vehicle chased them from the right side" said Inspector Sankhala.
Police source said, when the team chasing them from the right side of the road went ahead of them and pushed them into the corner of the road divider, they tried to turn and run away but by that time the team chasing them from the wrong side intercepted them. Having no choice, they tried to take a turn and sped away but the bike slipped.
"We cordoned them but as a last resort one of the accused took out a knife to attack us. However, we snatched the knife off his hands and caught them. They were Hardik, Agrawal and the minor girl" added a police source.
ACP Rana said that all accused were then brought to the police station and at present are sent for Covid-19 test before making official arrest of three accused and deal with the other two according to the juvenile law.
How did the murder happened
Inspector KB Sankhala of Isanpur police station said that according to the father of the deceased, Haresh Darji 52, who is differently abled and runs his house by sewing clothes , his elder son Umang went out of the house on his bike at about 10 pm saying that he is coming back soon. "However, at about 11 pm he got a call saying that his son has been stabbed on Guruji Bridge and is lying in a pool of blood" a police official said.
Hareshbhai along with his neighbor Dhruv Trivedi went to the spot and saw that his son was stabbed in the stomach and the chest and was lying in the middle of the bridge and still breathing.
"Umang told his father some unknown person stopped me and stabbed me. Then they fled with my mobile phone and wallet. After that he fell uncurious. We took him to civil hospital by 108 emergency service. However, during the operation he died, “added Inspector Sankhala.
