GURUGRAM: Soon after the ICSE and ISC results were out, Haryana Board of School Education released its board results for Class X late on Friday evening. Nearly 65% of around 3.4 lakh students passed this year, with girls outshining boys. Last year, around 57% of the total students passed the board exams. The major jump in the performance, however, was from Gurugram, which has been ranked fifth among the 22 districts in the state.
In fact, after several years, Gurugram climbed up the ranking in district-wise performance in 2020 board exams, with 68.22% as the overall pass percentage. Of the 14,190 students who appeared from the district, about 9,680 cleared the exams. Gaurav Kumar of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 4/7, is the district topper with 99% score. “Clearly, we have come a long way in improving the quality of education. Special congratulations to all the toppers, students, teachers and their parents,” said an education department officer.
However, Mewat was an embarrassing exception in the overall district-wise performance table. It was placed at the last spot, with only 56% students clearing the exams. Rewari topped the list with the passing percentage exceeding the state’s average. Further, the results revealed the urban and rural divide in the overall academic performance of the education. While in urban areas, nearly 70% students passed the exams, the passing percentage in the rural areas was less than 65%.
Similarly, private schools once again produced better results than their government counterparts. While in private schools, nearly 70% passed the examinations, in government schools less than 60% could clear the board exams, highlighting the stark difference in the quality of education.
Furthermore, gender wise analysis of the results revealed that girls outshone boys, with 69.86% girls and 60.27% boys being successful. Hrishita Kumari from Tagore Senior Secondary School in Narnaund scored a perfect score of 500 marks to become the state topper. In the toppers list too, girls outdid boys hands down. While six girls, all from Hisar, took the top two slots, only one boy was among the nine students who shared the third spot.
