1st Test live updates: After a remarkable last hour on Day 4, the 1st Test is wide open going into the final day at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton today.

England looked in command during a 98-run stand between captain (46 off 79 balls) and youngster Zal Crwaley (76 off 127 balls) on Day 4. But a spirited performance by West Indies pace attack with the second new ball put visitors as favourites on the final day of the match. With no rain forecast today, the prospect of a draw is thrown out of the equation, unless overnight batsmen Jofra Archer (5 off 14 balls) and Mark Wood (1 off 1 ball) spring a surprise.

Eng vs WI 1st Test Day 4: As it happened

England’s lead: England eked out a 170-run lead on Day 4 of the first test against the West Indies, with all outcomes still possible in the first match since the resumption of international cricket under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic.

Late West Indian flair: The West Indies pace attack took five wickets in the final session of Day 4 to reduce England to 284-8 at stumps at an empty Rose Bowl on Saturday, making the tourists marginal favourites with the pitch slow but yet to misbehave.

English stars on Day 4: Zak Crawley (76) and Dom Sibley (50) were the two batsmen who got half-centuries, while England captain chipped in with 46 before the late Windies fightback. "It should be tight if we bowl well tomorrow, especially if we get a lead of 200," Crawley said after the Day 4 proceedings.

That will be on the shoulders of unbeaten batsmen Jofra Archer (5) and Mark Wood (1), with to come in at No. 11.
Windies stars on Day 4: bowled Ollie Pope and Dom Bess in the last hour to finish with figures of 3-62 off his 18 overs. Joseph was also impressive, taking 2-40 off 16 overs.
