UP: 1,347 cases push Covid-19 tally to 34,000; over 10,000 cases in July

LUCKNOW: As many as 1,347 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, taking the Covid-19 tally so far to 34,131. This is the maximum number of cases in a single day.
An official data reveals that the first 10 days of July have already seen 10,000 plus novel coronavirus cases which is over 50% of the cases recorded in June. The state also recorded 27 Covid deaths in 24 hours which is also highest in a single day. Of these, seven were recorded in Kanpur alone followed by Lucknow where three persons died of the infection.
Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Gonda reported three deaths each, while Meerut, Saharanpur, Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Rae Bareli, Hardoi, Jalaun, Mirzapur and Hathras recorded one death each.
Health officials stated that the number of active infections in the state is 11,024, while 660 persons were discharged in the past 24 hours, taking the total recoveries to 21,787.
Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said that efforts were on to scale up testing further. “Over 38,000 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, while the total number of tests done, so far, crossed 10.74 lakh. Seven new labs would be dedicated to people of UP by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday,” he said, urging people to follow Covid-19 prevention protocols very seriously.
Of the 1,137 new cases, districts of the Meerut division accounted for 23% (314) of the cases. The list includes Ghaziabad (124), Gautam Budh Nagar (87), Meerut (59), Bulandshahr (29), Hapur (9) and Baghpat (6). Several western UP districts accounted for a large number of cases, including Moradabad (47), Aligarh (31), Bareilly (25) and Sambhal (24).
In Bundelkhand area, 61 fresh cases were reported in Jhansi, while in eastern UP Varanasi (50), Deoria (48), Ballia (33) and Mau (24) recorded spikes. In central UP, Lucknow, Barabanki, Kanpur and Prayagraj accounted for 140, 69, 69 and 45 new cases respectively.
The other districts with double digit entries included Rampur (18), Unnao (18), Ayodhya (16), Basti (15), Hardoi (15), Bijnore (13), Bahraich (13), Sant Kabir Nagar (13), Farrukhabad (13), Sitapur (12), Azamgarh (11), Siddharthnagar (10), Muzaffarnagar (10) and Etawah (10).
Prasad said that people must avail the facility of e-sanjivani portal – a web based medical consultation facility started by the state government.
