Punjab: RGNUL undertakes not to charge late fee

CHANDIGARH: The students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) Patiala would not be charged late fee in case of delay in payment of their fees for the courses.
A statement in this regard was made by the university before the Punjab and Haryana high court in response to a petition filed by some students against the charging of late fees by the university.
The university administration had prescribed from Rs 1000-10000 late fees on those depositing the university fee beyond July 10.
The HC, however, issued notice to the university administration seeking its reply on the issue. The matter has been fixed for further hearing for July 17.
Justice B S Walia of the HC has passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by students of the RGNUL challenging the decision of the university administration to charge full semester fee of Rs 113500 by July 10 which was beyond tuition fee. According to the petitioner students around 50% of the fee is being charged towards allied fee Rs 41,000, which includes amenities fee of Rs 23,000, campus development fund Rs 10,000, moot court fees Rs 3,000, examination fee Rs 3,000 and Rs 2000 as library fee. It was also submitted that Rs 15,000 to 17,500 is being charged as hostel fee by the university despite the fact that the students are not residing in hostels since March.
"Even, the online classes are not also being conducted properly by the university," students had submitted.
Counsel for the petitioners, senior advocate Chetan Mittal submitted that the RGNUL is getting huge grants from the state of Punjab and as per the records available there is FDR available with them of Rs 48 crores.
