Lockdown in India update news: Several states across the country have enforced lockdown even as coronavirus cases in India near 8-lakh mark and COVID19 death toll stood at 21,064. A complete lockdown in 10 districts of Bihar including capital city Patna is beginning today. Meanwhile, another round of lockdown has been imposed in parts of West Bengal including capital Kolkata, parts in Madhya Pradesh, and Assam. We are already witnessing lockdown in Karnataka capital Bengaluru, Kerala capital Thiruvananthapuram, parts in Assam including northeast India’s most important city Guwahati. Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh have imposed section 144 and more restrictions in certain parts to control the COVID19 pandemic in these areas. The central government had issued Unlock 2.0 guidelines but provided provisions for the state governments to take a call after assessing the situation.
Mumbai Pune Maharashtra Lockdown news update
A 10-day lockdown will be imposed in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and a few other parts of the district starting July 13. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, PTI reported. Pune district saw its highest 24-hour period jump in COVID-19 cases with 1,598 people testing positive, taking the count here to 35,997. The death toll crossed the 1000-mark and reached 1,007 as 28 people succumbed to the infection.
Section 144 continues in Mumbai even as the Maharashtra government enforced strict coronavirus measures in parts of the state. The supply of essential goods and medical emergencies have been exempted from Section 144. In Mumbai, the night curfew timings are between 9 PM and 5 AM.
Bengaluru Bangalore Karnataka Lockdown news update
The Karnataka government in the evening announced complete lockdown in Bengaluru urban and rural for one week from July 14, PTI reported. “As COVID-19 cases are increasing in the state day by day, based on the advice of experts complete lockdown will be imposed in Bengaluru urban and Bengaluru rural for one week from July 14 Tuesday 8 pm to 5 am on July 22,” Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said in a statement. As of July 11 evening, cumulatively 36,216 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 613 deaths and 14,716 discharges, a government bulletin said. Bengaluru urban district tops the list of positive cases, with a total of 16,862 infections.
Kerala Thiruvananthapuram Lockdown news update
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Friday that the COVID-19 lockdown in Thiruvananthapuram has been extended for a week. Triple lockdown will be imposed in containment zones, ANI reported the CM as saying.
Earlier, people staged a protest in Thiruvananthapuram’s Poonthura area where commandos had to be deployed following the detection of ‘super spread’ of COVID-19. The protestors alleged that COVID-19 patients from the area were not getting proper treatment, as per ANI report. As many as 25 Commandos of Special Armed Police (SAP) were deployed in Poonthura to enforce lockdown guidelines. Kerala DGP said, “Coast Guard, Coastal Security, and Marine Enforcement also put on guard here to prevent fishing boats going out to or returning from Tamil Nadu.”
Assam Lockdown news update
In Assam, the ongoing lockdown in Kamrup Metropolitan district, under which Guwahati city falls, has been further extended for a week from July 12 due to large-scale spread of COVID-19 cases, PTI reported. Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna said the 14-day lockdown in the district was scheduled to end at 6 pm on Sunday but the district magistrate reported that rising cases may be a major threat to public health, hygiene and safety of the general population.
“Due to extensive testing, isolation and other restrictive measures, community spread of COVID-19 has been contained to some extent and this necessitates further extension of prohibitory measures to contain the spread of the pandemic,” he stated.
Guwahati city has reported a surge of positive cases with 6,221 since June 24 following which a complete lockdown was imposed in the entire district on June 28.
Kolkata West Bengal Lockdown news update
In West Bengal, a seven-day lockdown was clamped from Thursday on the state’s containment zones, spread across 20 of the 23 districts. Most parts of West Bengal wore a deserted look on Friday as most people preferred to stay indoors on the second day of the seven-day lockdown clamped on the state’s containment zones. The containment zones, spread across 20 of the state’s 23 districts, went into total lockdown from 5 pm on Thursday. Private and public vehicles remained off the roads in these areas while all business establishments, barring those dealing with essential commodities, stayed shut.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced stringent lockdown in containment zones in districts and Kolkata. These areas will be sealed, no transport will be allowed, shops except for emergency one will remain closed. CM Banerjee has directed police to not allow people venturing out without masks to roam on roads. She has also asked government officials to ensure the availability of foods during the lockdown. Lockdown in Kolkata and other West Bengal districts is beginning from 5 PM on July 9 i.e Thursday. According to the announcement made by CM Banerjee, the lockdown in parts of Bengal will continue for one week.
Patna Bihar Lockdown news update
In Patna, streets looked less crowded as the lockdown has begun in parts of Bihar. Police were seen keeping strict vigil. Bihar government had announced a strict lockdown in the state capital city of Patna. As per the lockdown rules, all government and private offices will remain closed. Emergency services such as medicine, ration, dairy, and meat shops are exempted from the lockdown measures. The essential shops will remain open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The lockdown will begin from July 10 i.e Friday and it will continue till July 16.
Madhya Pradesh Lockdown news update
With coronavirus cases rising alarmingly, the Madhya Pradesh government has announced that it would enforce a complete lockdown across the state on Sundays to check the spread. Major cities like Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, and Jabalpur are getting more new cases pf Coronavirus every day.
Chhattisgarh Lockdown news update
Chhattisgarh has announced that section 144 will remain imposed for the next three months to curb the rising coronavirus cases in the state.
