Pass percentage improves in CISCE X, XII exams

Read MoreNEW DELHI: The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) declared the results of this year’s ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) examinations on Friday but did not release a toppers’ list, saying it wasn’t doing so as several exams could not be held because of disruptions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The board said the ISC pass percentage was 96.8%, 0.3 percentage point more than last year. For ICSE, the pass percentage stood at 99.3%, 0.1 percentage point higher than in 2019.
There are 1,125 ISC and 2,341 ICSE schools in India, with Delhi-NCR having 35 ISC and 48 ICSE schools.
Delhi-NCR saw a drop in the ISC pass percentage to 97.8%, from 98.4% last year. For ICSE, the pass percentage in the region was 99.6%, a slight increase from 99.2% in 2019.
The board had wanted to conduct the rescheduled exam on July 1 but with parents moving court against the move, the exams were canceled. It was only on July 3 that the board released a new assessment scheme.
Like the formula followed by the Central Board of Secondary Education for awarding marks in subjects in which students could not sit for exams, CISCE took the average marks of the best three subjects in which the candidate had taken the test.
For ISC students, practical project marks, totalling 20 to 30, were also taken. For Class X, internal assessment marks also considered for arriving at the percentage of marks obtained by candidates in practical/project/internal assessment.
