He said that 40 percent of the bamboo resources of the entire country are in the Northeast region.

He said that despite India being the second largest producer of bamboo and cane in the world, its share in global trade is only five percent. The minister said that the sensitivity with which the Modi government has noticed the importance of propagation of bamboo, it is clear from this that it has amended the centuries-old Forest Act and made bamboo cultivation in the country out of the purview of the Forest Act.

Singh said that the Prime Minister has always given top priority to the Northeast. Soon after the Modi government came to power in 2014, the Prime Minister said that every effort will be made to bring the northeast region with more developed areas of the country.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Reijiju said that the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has done a good job to promote the bamboo sector.
