Lockdown continues in 3 civic bodies of Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali, Mira-Bhayandar

Kalyan-Dombivali, Thane will be under lockdown till July 19, Mira-Bhayandar till July 18: Municipalities.
With the increasing number ofCovid-19 cases in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, three municipal corporations have decided to extend the lockdown. Thane and Kalyan-Dombivali will now be under complete lockdown till July 19, while Mira-Bhayandar will be under lockdown till July 18.
The lockdown, which started from July 2 in Thane and Kalyan-Dombivali, means that only milk will be available at stores from 7 am to 10 am. Groceries and other essential items will be available only through home delivery. Medicine shops are allowed to remain open all day. Even trucks of vegetables are not allowed to enter the city premises and the APMCs are closed.

Kalyan and Dombivali saw over 600 corona cases on Friday. There have been 172 deaths in KDMC so far. Thane reported 416 cases on Friday, with 17 new deaths, taking the total up to 463 people. The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation on Friday reported 213 cases and two deaths, taking the total toll to 180.Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation was yet to take a call the extension of lockdown on Friday, the day 192 cases were reported in the area.
“The biggest problem with MMR is they don’t have big hospitals like Mumbai or medical professionals to match the scale,” said an official. Social activist Shrinivas Ghanekar felt the lockdowns are especially hard on smaller vendors.

“During the lockdown, essential workers are allowed to go to work but people doing small work in MMR like vegetable vendors and shopkeepers are having a tough time,” said.
Meanwhile after the visit ofdeputy chief minister Ajit Pawar , officials in Pune district have also decided to impose a lockdown from July 13 to 23. Pune has seen around 978 deaths so far. Pune reported 1,803 cases on Thursday of which 1,032 were from Pune City and 573 from the industrial town of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Only home delivery in Panvel till July 14
The newly appointed commissioner of Panvel Municipal Corporation Sudhakar Deshmukh has up with some new rules foressential service providers effective till July 14. As per this order, all shops providing food are permitted to only make home deliveries between 9 am and 9pm; they would not be allowed to make any counter sales during this period.
Dairies are allowed to operate between 5am and 10 am, while medicine shops can operate between 9 am and 9 pm with all social distancing measures in place. Restaurants have been permitted to provide deliveries and takeaway orders between 10 am and 10 pm.

These restrictions have not gone down too well with some residents of Panvel though. Social activist Deepak Singh said that Panvelkars pointed out that newly developed areas like Ulwe, New Panvel and Road Pali do not even have proper shops for the residents to get essentials in. “The small number of shops and the short window of time gives rise to a lot of chaos and crowding during the morning outside the few shops. This is not going to help in controlling the infection,” said Singh.
Kharghar resident Shubham Vyas said PMC should have used the past couple of months to improve health infrastructure and ramp up testing facilities “With most people facing severe economic problems, these restrictions are only going to make people more frustrated,” he said.
