BOSTON --- Bobby Dalbec has been cleared to rejoin the Red Sox.

One of the organization’s top prospects worked out at Boston College on Saturday and is expected to be at Fenway Park for the first time on Sunday. Dalbec has missed all of Summer Camp to this point after testing positive for the coronavirius at his Arizona home.

"He hasn’t done much over a couple weeks, so we went pretty slow with him," Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said. "Just hit some ground balls to him, he threw a little bit and then took some soft-toss swings in the cage."

Dalbec will check in with Red Sox strength and conditioning coach Kiyoshi Momose before being turned loose on the field. The club wants to gauge where he stands physically after the extended period of down time. Dalbec was asymptomatic but could be an injury risk if pushed too hard physically in the early going.

Dalbec, along with infielder C.J. Chatham and catcher Connor Wong, was one of three top prospects invited to camp among the 60-man player pool. He cracked 27 combined home runs with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket in 2019, appearing with the PawSox for the first time. His strong 6-foot-4 frame could put Dalbec in the mix at either corner infield position.

Three Boston players remain away from the club after their own positive tests. Eduardo Rodriguez and Darwinzon Hernandez are at home while Josh Taylor is isolated in a Boston hotel room. There is no timetable for any of the three left-handers to return.
