Ex-Armyman killed in Dumka for passing lewd comments at widow, 4 held

Dumka: Four persons were arrested on Friday for beating up a former Army jawan, who later succumbed to his injuries, at Darbarpur village under Massanjore police station in Dumka district.
The deceased, Chando Hembrom, who quit the Army a couple of years back, was allegedly beaten up by gram pradhan Gono Hembrom and four others on Wednesday for passing lewd remarks at a widow.
“All the four accused, including the village head, have been arrested and sent to jail after an FIR was lodged by Chando’s wife Lobijita Marandi on Thursday,” officer-in-charge of Massanjore police station, Vijay Kumar Singh said.
He further said, “Chando used to pass filthy remarks at a widow in his neighbourhood, who in turn approached the village head. He also misbehaved with Gono and others, which led to fisticuffs.”
“He (Chando) was beaten with sticks following which he received grievous injuries on his head,” Singh added.
The victim was initially admitted to Dumka sadar hospital from where he was referred to Rims in Ranchi on Thursday. He succumbed to his injuries while he was being taken to the state capital.
