Assam: Covid care centre dedicated to pregnant women and children below 12 years to come up in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Assam is setting up a Covid care centre dedicated to pregnant women and children below 12 years and a geriatric Covid care centre for positive people above 65 years only in Guwahati, where facilities will be customized to meet the needs of these special categories of patients.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “It will be the first of its kind Covid care centre in the country that will be dedicated to only to pregnant women and children.”
The centre for pregnant women and children will have gynecologists in addition to the general doctors engaged in Covid treatment and every other facilities required in a maternity hospital and even playground facility for the positive children
“For the pregnant women who test positive for Covid-19 will be admitted in this hospital and also children below 12 years of age. We are planning to start this centre from July 14 amd we will try to keep all Covid-19 positive pregnant women here,” Sarma said.
“If necessary, we have arranged for caesarian section surgeries at MMCH even for Covid-19 positive pregnant women,” Sarma added.
Also from July 14, the health the Covid care centre at Khanapara here will cater to only senior citizens above 65 years who are Covid positive.
Sarma said, “This centre will have all facilities like diabetes test facility and other blood test for geriatric care. There will be a nurse allotted for every five patients. There will be regular sugar, BP tests which are not part of the protocol for other Covid positive patients. There will medicine doctors on round the clock duty and even customized food for these senior citizens.
