100-year-old woman beats Covid in Sahibganj

Dumka: In perhaps the oldest patient recovering from Covid-19 in the country, a 100-year-old woman from Sahibganj was discharged from a hospital on Thursday night after she was fully cured. Draupadi Devi of Sakrugadh locality was shifted to the dedicated hospital for treating the disease on June 25.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Varun Ranjan congratulated the entire medical team which was engaged in her care and said, “At 100, she is possibly the oldest Covid-19 patient in the country who recovered from the virus. There was no need for additional clinical support like oxygen in her treatment, which is also very encouraging for the medical team."
Ranjan added, "Whenever I enquired about her condition, the staff at the hospital would tell me that she is very diligent about responding to their way of care."
Doctors said Draupadi, who was bedridden for the last five years after she fractured her waist, remained asymptomatic throughout her treatment. Sahibganj civil surgeon Dr D N Singh said, "There was no need for oxygen or other medicinal support. All that we had to do was regularly monitor her health condition during her stay at the hospital for a fortnight."
Singh added, "She recovered properly because of her disciplined lifestyle. It was remarkable because the virus is dangerous for elderly people."
Speaking to TOI, Draupadi’s son Ramswaroop Chaurasiya said, "My mother has always been very particular about her daily routine. A vegetarian, she follows a disciplined life and wakes up at 4am every day to take tulsi leaf extracts. After lunch, she always makes it a point to have fruits and finishes her day with a glass of milk after dinner."
Draupadi is believed to have contracted the virus from Ramswaroop, who works at the civil court in Sahibganj and had earlier tested positive but has now recovered.
