THANE: Even as the administration is desperately chalking out measures to clamp down the
Covid-19 infection in Thane, the numbers climbed up by 416 cases, the highest ever for the city, to touch 12,469 while 17 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours on Friday, taking the virus toll to 463.
Meanwhile, the number of cases continued to rise in the
Naupada zone of the city that saw around 90 positive cases detected followed by
Majiwada and
Manpada Ward. Uthalsar and other wards also followed suit.
Thane commissioner Dr Vipin Sharma told TOI they were working towards improving the volume of testing in these wards especially those that have seen a rise in positive cases of late.
Meanwhile, the corporation introduced an extension to the lockdown till July 19. Residents and traders however claimed it was an unjust move.
"These lockdowns aren't helping any which way as the rise in patients is not yet stopped. The administration should work with area-wise doctors and arrive on some concrete plan. All of us are fed up because of continuous extension of lockdowns. Securing daily vegetables and essentials has also become a task of late’, said Shailendra Chikhalkar, Happy Valley Society, Thane.
