AGRA: Reacting to the death of gangster Vikas Dubey in an alleged encounter in Kanpur on Friday, slain UP police constable Jitendra Pal Singh’s father said, “Many secrets have now been buried with his killing.” Teerthpal Singh, 56, whose son was shot by the dreaded gangster along with seven other cops in Kanpur last week, said, “Uttar Pradesh police should have identified all the supporters of Vikas Dubey. There were apparently many bigwigs, including politicians, who backed the gangster.”
Teerthpal said that though he is satisfied with Dubey’s killing, he was perturbed by the fact that his supporters and accomplices would not be exposed now. He also questioned how Dubey had managed to travel through the state border. “It shows that he was under protection of some powerful men and their names should have come out,” he said.
Family members of another slain constable Babloo Kumar of Agra also expressed happiness on Dubey’s killing and urged the government to completely destroy the empire built by him.
“Exemplary punishment should be given to all his associates, so that nobody aspires to become another Dubey in future,” they said. Babloo’s elder brother Bantu demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
Similarly, Urmila, wife of constable Sultan Singh, said that she is satisfied with the outcome. “I’m satisfied. But it will now never come to the fore as to who all were backing him,” she said.
Kamal Kant, a relative of slain CO DP Mishra, expressed satisfaction. However, he also said that those who gave patronage to Vikas Dubey must be brought to book and investigation must be carried further. People in Mishra’s village also expressedhappiness and joy after Dubey’s encounter.
On the other hand, Manoj Shukla, whose brother Santosh Shukla was shot dead by Vikas Dubey in 2001, said, “His brother’s soul will now rest in peace after 19 years.”
Similarly, an injured constable Ajay Kashyap, told reporters that the encounter has brought solace to him. “It will restore faith in the police in the eyes of the public,” he said.
