Pune: Major hospitals to offer free COVID-19 treatment

Pune: Some private hospitals are charging huge amount of money for the treatment of coronavirus Many people in Pune have complained about the unruly expenses charged for the treatment.

In order to provide free treatment for the virus, the Pune District administration has come with a list of 17 private hospitals in the city which are obliged to provide treatment under the Maharashtra state government's 'Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana' in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad areas.

According to the Pune District Health Department, a total of 68 hospitals in the district are covered under the Public Health Scheme and free treatment of coronavirus patients at all levels is mandatory as per the rules.

The affluent, poor, middle-class family can avail the free treatment benefit for this pandemic including follow-up services post-discharge from the hospital, including the treatment in case of complications for up to 10 days will be taken care of. 25 per cent beds are kept reserved by the district administration for citizens under the government scheme.

These 17 hospitals in the city include Bharti Hospital- Katraj, Care Multi specialist Hospital -Wagholi, Devyani Multispeciality Hospital in Kothrud, Galaxy Care Multispeciality Hospital-based in Deccan, Global Hospital and Research Institute Hospital- Chinchwad, Om Hospital in Bhosari, Surya Hospital- Pune, D Y Patil Medical College Hospital in Pimpri, AIIMS Hospital  in Aundh, Desai Accident and General Hospital in Bhosari, Lifeline Hospital in Bhosari, Pawar Multispeciality Hospital and Diagno Center in Bibwewadi, Rao Nursing Home in Bibwewadi, Rising Medicare Hospital in Yerawada, Shree Hospital Criticare and Trauma Center in Kharadi, Integrated Cancer Center in Kesnand and Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Kothrud.

The eight hospitals under the same scheme include District Hospital in Aundh, Lokmanya Hospital in Chinchwad, DY Patil Medical College Hospital in Pimpri, Sassoon General Hospital at Pune Station, Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri, Kamla Nehru Hospital near Rasta Peth, Naidu Hospital, The Divisional Mental Hospital Yerawada is a government hospital.
