The state government has sought help from the Indian defence forces to deal with the COVID-19 crisis in Goa.

The defence forces have kept all the manpower and infrastructure ready to deal with any eventuality.

A related meeting was held between the state government and officials of the defence forces on Friday, following a rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Goa.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Commanders-in-chief of Army, Navy and Coast Guard and other government officials.

“The Chief Minister had sought help from the army in view of spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Goa,” said Naik after the meeting, pointing out that they have agreed to extend help in terms of staff, doctors, hospital beds, blood donation, awareness campaigns and so on.

Nearly six lakh households in Goa would soon be provided with immunity boosting AYUSH medicines, in the coming days, informed Naik, who also holds the AYUSH portfolio in the Union government.
