Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation today the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project, one of the world's largest solar projects located in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh.

Mr. Modi will launch the project through video conferencing. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Energy, New and Renewable Energy R.K. Singh will also be involved.

State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan laid the foundation stone of this project on 22 December 2017. The project was completed in a record time of about two and a half years. The project is generating cheap electricity. This is saving a huge amount.

The World Bank loan to this project has been given at cheaper rates under Clean Technology Fund without the guarantee of the State Government. This project is also important in this sense as it has a purchase rate of 2 rupees 97 paise per unit, which is the lowest rate till date. From the environmental point of view of the solar project, the Rewa solar project is preventing emission of 15.7 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide every year which is equivalent to planting 20 million trees.

Apart from this, the major solar power plant project installed at Gurh Rewa is set up in an area of 1590 hectares. It is one of the largest Sigal side solar plants in the world. This solar power plant has a total of three units. Each unit is producing 25 mega watts of electricity. 76 percent of the power generated from the project is being provided to the state's Power Management Company and 24 percent to Delhi Metro.
