Rewa solar power project in Madhya Pradesh - Asia's largest solar power park is a breathtaking sight! PM Narendra Modi has dedicated the 750 MW solar power project to the country. The solar power park three solar generating units. Each of these units have a capacity of 250 MW and each unit is located on a 500 hectare plot. The Rewa Solar Park covers an area of 1500 hectares. Developed by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited, the project is part of India's commitment to attain the target of 175 GW capacity of installed renewable energy by 2022. The project developer - RUMSL is a Joint Venture of Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam and Solar Energy Corporation of India. After the completion of the Solar Park, RUMSL selected three companies - Mahindra Renewables, ACME Jaipur Solar Power and Arinsun Clean Energy through reverse auction for developing the three solar generating units.
The project achieved first-year tariff of Rs 2.97 per unit. The escalation tariff of the project per unit is Rs 0.05, for over a time period of 15 years and the per unit levelized rate is of Rs 3.30 over 25 years.
This Solar Park project is expected to reduce carbon emission to around 15 lakh ton of CO2 annually. Financial assistance of Rs 138 crore has been provided by the central government to RUMSL for the development of the Solar Park project.
It is the first such project to supply solar energy to an institutional customer outside the state. From this Solar Park, Delhi Metro, will get 24% energy and the State DISCOMs of Madhya Pradesh will get the remaining 76% energy.
This project has received the prestigious World Bank Group President’s Award for innovation as well as excellence. Apart from this, it was also included in “A Book of Innovation: New Beginnings”, a book released by the Prime Minister.
